2. Three Key Hires to Start Paid Marketing

You should start with a data scientist. If you can find them in the market, that would be great; if not, go to a business school and hire from there.

Technically speaking, this guy is a product manager who’s a product manager and data scientist combined.

When hiring for this role, you should target someone who understands products and data. They should be able to talk to databases independently, and they will require some technology, such as SQL and Python. Those two are the skill sets to look at.

Typically, if you go to a grade A business school, that is a 20 lakh/pa cost type of person.

I’m focusing on business school because you need a little business and product understanding along with tech. And there are people now in the market who can do that.

I sense there are even very driven people available in engineering schools who might be able to pick it up.

Simply put, the second person should be someone who can do plus, minus, multiply, and divide very effectively. This is the person who will buy media.

Conceptually, this guy is a performance marketing or marketing person. This person is responsible for media buying, working with creative landing pages, app optimization, onboarding journeys, and so on.

There are multiple ways to handle this.

Now, you can outsource this part to an AI tool or agency. That sorts you out. All you need is to ask for a dashboard and live with a target given to the agency.

If you don’t want to pay that money, you will have to hire. Hiring for this role can be tricky because any qualified person would have built their own rules and would be running agencies.

You can also learn it yourself. It’s not that hard.
