We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams; —
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

It’s Blume Day X – our 10th edition! Starting March 22, the celebrations will continue through the week and perhaps into April and beyond. In our heads, 3 years ago, we had planned a music-filled gala event in Mumbai to celebrate #10YearsOfBlume. The theme too was seated in our head, for a few years. Blume Day X would be a tribute to the “Music Makers”. It’s been an inspirational poem for a long time in our journey.
While we have adapted to unique formats to communicate, learn, and celebrate through what has been a difficult year, music will be a constant before, during and after the COVID era. Music as a metaphor for creation, conjuring up answers for many questions, and just for being there as a friend and guide are just some of the evocations of this poem by Arthur O’ Shaughessy.
This will now be embedded in our hearts as it marks the 7th of our annual tees.

2021: We are the Music Makers
We all know that entrepreneurship is a journey and not a destination. Not much unlike the tumultuous and disciplined journey of an accomplished musician.
In our founders, and in the ecosystem as a whole, we see these Music Makers; weaving melodies from thin air, crafting stories with the tools of the trade. To celebrate the Music Makers, we asked Blumiers (founders and team members and alums) to pick their favourite musical piece – anything that fuels them up, calms them down or re-energizes them for the road ahead – a song or a piece of music that makes you feel unstoppable the next minute, the next morning.
What we got back was over a 100 musical pieces – high tempo numbers, soft melodic solos, powerful ballads, traditional symphonies, classical pieces, rock n roll, english, hindi, tamil – a wide tapestry of different musical influences and inspirations, carving out the diversity of what makes the Indian startup founder of this era.
On the occasion of Blume Day X and in celebration of our family of music makers, we will be releasing a mix-tape of these inspirational songs that you’ve all collectively carried along on your entrepreneurial journey.
We will be releasing the playlists publicly. They capture the essence of what drives the startup founders – from ‘70-borns to ‘90-borns, cutting across all barriers. Each to their own, but collectively driving what’s become one of the most important entrepreneurial engines that our nation has produced in its history.
We are the Music Makers.
(A curation of 10 theme / genre specific playlists — updated one every few days, starting Mar 25, 2021)
Descriptor: Much like the entrepreneurial journey, this playlist traverses an entire spectrum of different beats – as it begins with notes that are bold and emphatic, settles into a mellow and downbeat middle, and ends with that familiar high of inspiration and motivation.
Descriptor: Our second playlist, aptly named Rainbow In My Pocket, has all the musical ammo you need to stand your ground, pick yourself up, reassure yourself that you’re on the right path, feel like you’re in the right place at the right time, and transport yourself into a vortex of positivity — no matter how insurmountable the odds might seem.
Descriptor: Titled ‘Khaabon ke Parindey’ – this is the definitive desi playlist that Blumiers turn to when they’d like to feel stirred, motivated, uplifted from the sudden lows, and want to believe that their dreams are still achievable – no matter what obstacles come in their way.
Playlist includes Bollywood, Kollywood, indie / Coke Studio numbers — some even dating as far back to the 1950s!
Descriptor: The proverbial last mile is always the hardest. This phenomenon of losing steam just when you’re near the finish line is as much psychological, as it is physical.
There’s a song in this list for everyone to get through that last mile of the jog / run / marathon; both for the steps they’ve been pounding on the running track, and for the miles they’ve clocked in their entrepreneurial journey.
This one is called ‘Sunday Unwind’ with classics from Pink Floyd, Queen, The Beatles, Van Morrison, and more.
Do listen in and let us know what you think. We’d love to hear from you.
